You see, 19 years ago my wife and I decided to start one of the greatest journey’s of our lives. We became foster parents.
Throughout those 19 years, we’ve taken in more than 33 foster children–most went back home to their parents or relatives.
To-date, we’ve been able to adopt 6 plus we have 2 biological daughters. That makes 8 kiddos.
Sure, having a super-sized family is amazing! But, it also has its challenges. Especially when navigating their trauma and PTSD, their doctor appointments, therapy appointments, foster visitations and county meetings.
Hard Times
For seven of those 19 years of foster parenting, I worked in new home construction. At one point I was driving 2 hours a day, just to get to and from the project site.
I was leaving when my kids were waking up and coming home after they were in bed. It was terrible!
I was good at what I did and the pay was GREAT! But the stress was leading me into bad health and worst of all, I was missing out on my kids’ lives (and my wife needed my help).
One October day the you-know-what hit the fan on the job site and that was the figurative “fork-in-the-road.”
It was the Lord letting me know it was time.
That day I came home and my wife and I discussed our options, prayed, and decided to take a giant leap of faith.
We decided the only way to truly meet our family’s needs was to start our own business. I desperately needed to set my own schedule, work closer to home and cut out the work-place politics.

I had years of construction experience… from hole digger to back-end superintendent… my wife had the business startup and accounting knowledge and we both had been remodeling houses together for several years.

I love working with my hands, she loves running businesses, and we both have a calling to help others.

Plus, it would be a great business in which to teach and train all our children… in craftsmanship, service, and business administration.
